Pupil Premium at Burnley High School

Removing barriers, raising aspirations and ensuring every pupil can achieve their full potential.

Our commitment to pupils

At Burnley High School, we are committed to ensuring that every student feels part of our school family, regardless of social or economic circumstance. We believe that all pupils, whatever their background, should have equal access to high-quality education, opportunities and support to achieve their full potential.

Pupil Premium funding is used strategically to remove barriers to learning and ensure our disadvantaged students thrive academically, socially and personally.

How we use Pupil Premium funding

Our Pupil Premium Strategy focuses on:

  • High-quality teaching and learning
Investing in staffing, professional development and smaller class sizes to strengthen classroom practice.
  • Literacy and numeracy support
Targeted interventions to close gaps in reading, writing and maths so pupils can fully access the curriculum.
  • Attendance and wellbeing
Pastoral support, mentoring and emotional wellbeing provision to improve attendance, resilience and engagement with school life.
  • Ambition and aspiration
Ensuring pupils have access to enrichment activities, careers guidance, trips and experiences that broaden horizons and raise aspirations.
  • Removing financial barriers
Funding resources, uniform support, trips and opportunities so that no pupil is disadvantaged due to cost.

Our approach is evidence-informed and regularly reviewed to ensure funding has the greatest possible impact on pupil outcomes.
