Throughout your time at Burley High School, you will be able to explore the world of D&T through a variety of projects, each one will teach you a different set of skills which can be used to solve a range of design problems. You will complete 5 different projects each year in the following areas:

  • Textiles
  • Food technology
  • Product design

With each project, you will also learn about a theory topic linked to your project. An example of this is the application of smart materials such as phosphorescent and thermochromic and their part in developing innovative designs in year 7, how food miles impacts the environment in year 8 and anthropometrics in year 9.

The D&T department are passionate about allowing you to create design solutions with creativity and originality. The curriculum has been designed to allow you to learn new skills and build on your current skills to produce high quality products. The skills you learn in year 7 will become the foundations of your learning throughout year 8 and year 9 and even into GCSE.
